PNB appoints new board members

Philippine National Bank (PSE: PNB) announced that PNB’s Board of Directors approved the appointment of Federico C. Pascual as chairman and Leonilo G. Coronel as vice chairman following the bank’s Annual Stockholders Meeting last week. 

Pascual was first appointed as an independent director of the Bank in 2014 and currently serves as independent director of five of PNB’s subsidiaries and affiliate.  He is also a member of the Bureau of Customs’ Multi-Sectoral Governing Council and holds key leadership positions in various businesses.   

His past experiences include a 20-year stint at PNB as well as leadership roles in organizations such as Government Service Insurance System, National Reinsurance Corporation, Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine Stock Exchange, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Bankers Association of the Philippines, Philippine National Construction Corporation, San Miguel Corporation, among others.      

Pascual obtained his undergraduate degree from the Ateneo de Manila University, a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the Philippines, and a Master of Laws degree from Columbia University. 

Coronel, on the other hand, was appointed as director of PNB in 2013.  Presently, he is also an independent director of DBP-Daiwa Capital Markets Philippines and a director of Software Ventures International.   

His past experiences include executive director positions at Bankers Association of the Philippines and RBB Micro Finance Foundation; directorships at Philippine Depository and Trust Corporation, Philippine Clearing House Corporation, Philippine Dealing System, Capital Markets Development Council, various consultancy positions; and a 20-year stint at Citibank, Manila. 

Coronel obtained his undergraduate degree from the Ateneo de Manila University and took an Advance Management Program at the University of Hawaii. 

PNB also welcomed Lucio C. Tan III, Wilfrido E. Sanchez, and Angelito M. Villanueva to its board of directors.   

Tan III earned his bachelor of science in electrical engineering and master of science in computer science from Stanford University, from which he garnered multiple awards and citations. The son of the late Lucio “Bong” Tan, Jr. and the grandson of taipan Dr. Lucio C. Tan, he is currently director, president, and chief operating officer of Tanduay Distillers, Inc.   

Appointed as an independent director of PNB, Sanchez is a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. He is also a tax counsel at Quiason Makalintal Barot Torres Ibarra Sison & Damaso Law Offices and independent director at JVR Foundation, Inc. and on the board of several other companies. He received his bachelor of arts and bachelor of laws from the Ateneo de Manila University and a Masters of Law from Yale Law School. 

Also appointed as independent director of PNB, Villanueva was previously a director at Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company, Philippine Savings Bank, and Philippine Clearing House Corporation, among others. He was also senior executive vice president and head of operations group of Metrobank. A certified public accountant, he obtained his business administration degree from Mapua Institute of Technology.  

PNB’s roster of Board members include Florido Casuela; Edgar Cua; Estelito Mendoza; Sheila Pascual; Carmen Tan; Lucio Tan; Michael Tan; Vivienne Tan; Wick Veloso; and Domingo Yap.
