The HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 Block Screening is the first of the many planned annual block screenings of the Thirsty Thursday Connect Group. It hopes to raise funds and invite people to Inspire Church Metro Manila and to help realize the church’s vision of transforming our city into a city of hope.
Background | Heart for the House
On September 2014, Inspire Church Metro Manila’s Head Pastor Nolan Galido launched a new series called “Heart for the House”. He reminded everyone that the church was not just a building—it was, rather, a gathering of believers. And that God was the centre of Inspire Church Metro Manila’s house. Pastor Nolan taught everyone how to live life together—because that was what a home really was about.
While Inspire Church certainly had that solid community of believers, the sad fact was that its location of regular Sunday services was not its permanent house. It was a rented space at the penthouse of Il Terrazzo mall along Tomas Morato, Quezon City—and that the church could be kicked out anytime someone offered a higher price to rent it. Inspire Church is doing alright as a mobile church—moving from one place to another. But it could grow and do better if it really had a place to call its home. Because of this dilemma, the Thirsty Thursday Connect Group thought of a fund-raising event that could garner a significant amount of donation to the Church: a seed money to start a building fund for a permanent home. Hence, the block screening of THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 was launched.
Our Program Goals | Where the Money Goes
While THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 block screening hoped to raise a significant amount of money to help start a fund for the future construction of Inspire Church Metro Manila, it also aimed to increase awareness for the church. Here are some of the goals of the project:
- Build solidarity and a sense of community within the Church’s servants and attendees by working together to create more ticket sales and garner more donations for the church;
- Promote the presence of Inspire Church Metro Manila within its vicinity;
- Invite and connect with non-believers to attend Sunday services and introduce them to a life wherein God is the centre; and,
- Collect a hefty amount of proceeds to be able to start a fund for the building of a permanent location.
The Project | Why We Chose THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 Movie
Inspire Church is in a revolution—to transform the city and to inspire people to reach their God-given potential. Much like Katniss Everdeen, the heroine of The Hunger Games series, she aimed to change the world she lived in: from being a hopeless, miserable place to a world where people lived life with hope. While Inspire Church aimed to transform people into God-centered servants, Katniss wanted her people to live life abundantly—which is basically the same. Only God can give an abundant life and a life-giving hope.
